  History

BIW Technologies Ltd (BIW®) today provides supply chain integration services to the global AEC community. It deploys, hosts and manages access to Software-as-a-Service applications from a centrally managed facility. Its core services were developed in partnership with UK government, universities and several major construction industry clients, professionals and contractors.

Since the mid 1990s, the UK AEC industry has seen a gradual move towards more collaborative ways of working. This shift has parallelled the development and AEC adoption of new ICT capabilities (email, websites, broadband communications, etc), with the first major clients beginning to use "extranets" in the late 1990s. In the early years of the 21st century these movements began to converge and become intertwined, but the resulting ICT buisnesses had to weather the bursting of the dot.com bubble in 2001.

Nonetheless, BIW Technologies, with its strong foundation in collaborative working and its deep understanding of the business-critical ICT issues, became the accepted market leader in 2003, and consolidated its position over the next two years. For its achievements, it won the prestigious Building Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2006, as adoption of it systems continued to accelerate and the business moved into a period of sustained profitability.

In the second half of the 2000s, BIW is set to maintain its market leadership as the industry moves forward in the UK, the Middle East and, increasingly, around the globe.
