BIW WINS CONSTRUCTION-PLUS CONFERENCE 'SHOOT-OUT' 02 April 2001 Building Information Warehouse's project collaboration technology, Project Information Channel, was voted the best UK project extranet system at conference at the Institution of Civil Engineers on Friday 30 March 2001. The event, organised by Construction Plus, Emap's market-leading B2B construction industry internet business, finished with a 'shoot-out' session in which different systems vied for delegates' votes. The conference featured presentations and client case studies highlighting UK experiences in using project extranet services. Gleeds' Tim Lunt described how Manchester Airport plc had adopted BIW's service to help it deliver its £50m Ground Transport Interchange project. The 150 conference delegates were also encouraged to research the different systems exhibited in a neighbouring exhibition area. The event finished with a series of presentations from leading providers of construction project collaboration technologies, including Bidcom, 4Projects, eGibb, Sarcophagus, Business Collaborator and BIW, after which delegates voted for their preferred system. BIW chief executive Colin Smith set the standard with the opening presentation. He said: "We maintained our professional, no-hype approach to marketing the Information Channel. We had an excellent exhibition display manned by staff able to demonstrate the system live; the Gleeds' project presentation was, if anything, understated; and our marketing and graphics staff produced some excellent support material to highlight the key factors delegates should consider in making their selection. The conference underlined the need to educate the market, and our focus on BIW's people, processes and systems was obviously very persuasive."
Notes for Editors: - Building Information Warehouse (BIW) provides supply chain integration services to the global AEC (architectural, engineering and construction) community. Its core services were developed in partnership with the UK government, universities, major construction industry clients, professionals and contractors.
- Rather than looking at a building project from the perspective of the consultants, contractors or other professionals, BIW focuses on the end product - the client's building - and aims to capture all of the information associated with it. With the Information Channel, the client can then operate and maintain its facility more efficiently, and - for repeat clients - knowledge gained in initial projects allows continuous improvement in later schemes.
