With collaboration technology increasingly used to deliver projects in the UK architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, the book’s general editors, all lawyers at leading construction lawyers Hammonds, invited BIW to contribute a chapter on partnering and the use of information and communication technology (ICT). Wilkinson accepted the challenge, producing a chapter welcomed by His Honour Judge Humphrey LLoyd QC, Judge of the Technology and Construction Court, who provided a foreword to the book:
“True partnering requires a more collaborative approach and ICT can serve it well. The author provides numerous instances where collaboration technology has succeeded and what can (and cannot be) achieved by application service providers. He also covers very fully the main legal implications."
David Savage, a partner in Hammonds’ Construction, Engineering and Projects Department and one of the book’s general editors, said: “BIW is widely regarded as the market leader in providing collaboration technology to the industry, so it was the obvious first choice to provide practical guidance on the key issues. Paul’s contribution draws extensively on BIW’s experience in meeting the demands of UK clients and industry professionals.” Other industry contributors to the book include Alan Crane, Don Ward and Richard Saxon.
Paul Wilkinson said: “BIW has invested heavily in developing its technologies and in devising contracts, licences and service level agreements that will satisfy our most demanding customers and end users. We are also strong believers in the value of partnering and collaborative working. As industry leader, then, we are well placed to offer an authoritative overview of the key issues.”
