PEABODY ADOPTS BIW INFORMATION CHANNEL

14 June 2002

The Peabody Trust, London’s largest charitable housing trust, is using the BIW Information Channel project extranet in two major regeneration schemes at King’s Cross and Southwark which will create 154 refurbished units at a cost of £5m.

BIW Information Channel is a web-based central information hub that can be accessed by all authorised members of a project team via a PC or Mac to provide accurate, up-to-date information. There are currently 15,000 users in nearly 2,000 companies working on over 700 projects worth in excess of £6 billion.

Peabody is using the King’s Cross and Southwark projects as pilots with a view to adopting BIW Information Channel as its standard corporate extranet service. Dickon Robinson, Peabody Trust’s director of Development and Technical Services, says: “After closely examining a competitive market, we felt BIW offered us the most suitable solution to our needs as a housing trust. We expect the pilot to demonstrate the tool’s usefulness on our two building projects and we hope to see further uses from the Channel when the buildings are maintained and managed.”

Notes to editors

  • Project collaboration services from BIW Technologies (www.biwtech.com) were first employed in 1998 on UK construction projects for Sainsbury. The customer list now includes Capital One Bank, housebuilder Crest Nicholson, Marks & Spencer, Manchester Airport, the Ministry of Defence, Ikea, the Welsh Development Agency, Asda, the Wellcome Trust, Kajima and developer Garbe.
  • BIW Information Channel is a sophisticated web-based supply chain integration technology, originally designed specifically for construction projects. Each client is provided with a unique, project-specific website created around a knowledge database. Using this, all data can be made available to every project team member – from the earliest concepts and specification, through detailed design, buildability studies, pre-fabrication, construction, maintenance, operation and improvement to the eventual demolition or dismantling of the facility.
  • Peabody Trust is one of London's largest housing associations responsible for over 19,500 homes and is a leading regeneration agency in the capital.
