BIW Technologies leads SaaS in the AEC industry into a low carbon future
BIW demonstrates its commitment to climate change with CarbonNeutral® company certification (22nd February 2011)
BIW Technologies Ltd. (BIW), an Infrastructure Lifecycle Management (ILM) provider to the global AEC industry and Owners, today announced that it is the first company of its kind to receive CarbonNeutral® company certification. By taking responsibility for the company’s entire footprint, BIW now provides zero carbon applications and services to its clients and can help to reduce the emissions associated with their whole supply chain.
As part of BIW’s significant investment into sustainability, a team has been created to drive the company and its stakeholders to a low carbon future. BIW will work with the leaders of tomorrow to help them to analyse and optimise their processes and implement environmental targets to achieve sustainable differentiation.
BIW worked with The CarbonNeutral Company, a world leading provider of carbon reduction solutions, to measure and reduce its own carbon footprint to net zero. All the emissions relating to the company, including energy consumption, waste and business travel were quantified and then reduced through internal initiatives and verified carbon offsets.
“We are proud to be the first SaaS provider in the AEC industry to have achieved CarbonNeutral® company certification,” said Jurgen Homann, Head of Sustainability, BIW. “Most of our clients are concerned about the environmental credentials of suppliers and because of this – and our own personal commitment to sustainability – we decided to become a certified CarbonNeutral® company. By taking a net zero position on emissions we have the strongest environmental position possible, above and beyond our competitors, and we are now working to define specific emissions reduction targets over the next three years.”
Homann continues “When it comes to sustainability, the real challenge is changing the way businesses and the industry works. IT can be a key driver to initiate this, however to be successful, IT and business strategies need to be closely aligned. This is where BIW works with its clients to improve the structure and execution of their business processes through implementation of process-based software. It’s time to rethink the part that IT can play in changing the face of the AEC industry.”
Rebecca Fay, Marketing Director, The CarbonNeutral Company, “Construction and property are industries acutely aware of the need to minimise the carbon impact of their business activities. By implementing a CarbonNeutral® programme, BIW has demonstrated that it is aligned to the values of its clients and prospects while providing a solution to help reduce the impact of the AEC supply chain.”
